Summary

When released this game had some problems and coming from EA its no big surprise really.

Now things have settled down this is one of the most atmostheric shooters available and the problems with overpowering vehicles and spawn raping which dogged the original are all gone.

Firstly the no go area extends over the opposition base, which is a good step forward. Although teams can still be restricted and hemmed in, it is now down to team play rather than camping out and killing spawning players.

Helicopters are damaged easily by automatic weapons and can be brought down much easier than in the original.

Both these simple changes have led to a much less stressful gaming experience, along with some excellently designed maps which have resulted in some of the best combined infantry and tank combat I have experienced in any multiplayer game.

The battlefields themselves are presented beautifully and have enough places to hide yourself when confronted with a tank and there are plenty of variations so they all feel different. It's a shame its not a full game as 6 maps is good, but 12 would have been better.

If you like old school shooters (all iron sights) and the fact that you can out think opponents, rather than who has the fastest trigger then this game is for you. Sniping isn't easy so you won't keep getting shot by people a mile away. Bullet drop is evident with all weapons so lots of the fighting is done at close quarters even though the maps are big.

All in all a great game for the money.

Summary

Once again I did Search for FPS games and was rewarded with BFBC2 V. Except, it isn't a FPS but yet another multiplayer dog. Folks, I'm of the generation who went to battle in V. Trust me, and the words of many others, almost all multiplayer war games are lacking in realism to the point of being funny - sad, but funny. In battle, there are people telling you what to do and where to go. But, once the air fills with the sounds of enemy shooting (real or perceaved) fear assumes command and you fight to keep your buds and you alive, regardless of what some SOB told you to do. Luck and your instincts get you through the sh*t. Why do you think the new guy is called the f**king new guy? Because he lacks the instincts necessary to survive and is living on luck and your instincts. Multiplayer war games are fought without luck and much too much as teams.

I enjoy computer games (all sorts) but only as a single person against the games' obstacles.

Summary

I know there are a lot of mindless people out there who drink the Kool-Aid of whatever drivel developers pose, and followers of BFBC2 and the Vietnam expansion pack are no different. Aside from the graphics, it's difficult to say anything redeeming about this game. First and foremost, the map designs are awful. The maps are castratingly small, and many choke points create numerous opportunities for mindless nade spam. I lost count somewhere between 10 and 15 times in a row I died within 10 feet and 2 seconds of spawning. And this is not a rare occurrence--it happens OFTEN! There is so little opportunity for teamwork on the expansion. Why? Because you won't live long enough to try it. And if you thought vehicles were overpowered in BFBC2, then strap in for more of the same. This game had so much potential, but is left impotent due to flawed map design and total lack of teamwork opportunity.

Outstanding DLC adds a ton of gameplay to an already rich game.

Summary

I love this expansion. Adds 5 maps, several weaps to BFBC2. Different atmosphere from BFBC2, much lower tech and realistic scenario. This expansion added a lot of variety to help me get to 50 quickly. More weaps to plat to get your score up and climb the leaderboards. The lack of optic scopes for the guns are nice IMO because it levels the playing field. I actually am more accurate without a scope on my gun. They need to patch some things still like the TT-33 handgun takes twice as long to plat as it should and the M2 Flamethrower doesn't display your star status. I have an absolute blast playing this and I enjoy playing this over default BFBC2 often times. I go back and forth between the expansion and default BFBC2, depending on what I feel like playing. Some of the weaps have the same stats as in default BFBC2 which helps you earn plat in them much more quickly. That is very nice for the shotty, which I hate using the slow reloading ones per poor hit detection.

The vehicles are very powerful and will help you plat that vehicle type. The PBR helped me plat sea vehicles big time whereas in default BFBC2, I was doing good to earn a single bronze star. I prefer the Huey over the attack helicopters in default BFBC2 by far. You can run into things and not instantly crash, you can carry up to 5 people for quick transport like the slow helos in default BFBC2, handling is vastly improved and you don't instantly crash for turning too soon, it is way easier to land and repair your chopper, and on and on. Hopefully they will improve the helos in BF3.

You feel like you are really in Vietnam, in the villages and surrounding areas. The ambiance is very nice and when all hell isn't breaking loose around you, it is nice to take in the settings. The countryside is nice to look at and is well articulated. The map that is rarely used, Vantage Point, is very scenic and I intentionally play on servers that use it just so I can play on that map.

If you enjoy default BFBC2, check this out. Not everyone enjoys it but I think it is great and I love spending time on the Vietnam servers. Look for Master_OrHan, I am the one you are raging against for owning you! XD

Some aspects are fun, but balance issues plague this game into mediocracy.

Summary

The good: It plays like BFBC2. Squad rush is still fun.

The bad: The graphics aren't that impressive. Every weapon is a sniper rifle. The vehicles are horribly overpowered and take way too much damage. Tanks and helicopters spawn to frequently. The helicopters are impossible to take down....especially if a laggy player is flying. (A direct hit with an rpg doesn't even take a chopper down) It's truly magical. Some maps are poorly designed and extremely unbalanced making spawn rape on certain maps inevitable. Hackers are out in force at times.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam isn't anything special and is probably the worst Battlefield experience I've had to date. They could easily patch a few things and make it more enjoyable, but they haven't and probably won't. I hope BF3 isn't a disaster like this was.

All in all, it reminded me of the poorly designed and unbalanced Medal of Honor maps except on a larger scale. I hope BF3 isn't as broke as this effort because this was way to disappointing.
